Instagram, despite it’s infamous policies on what’s “appropriate” content, is a great place for getting to know other lingerie lovelies (hello, Australian community!) and discovering new brands. Instagram’s algorithms seem to know me quite well and sensing my boredom earlier this year, it recommended William Wilde’s account. Instantly, I became a huge fan: the bright colors, William’s enthusiasm for his work, and his regular interaction with followers really sealed the deal for me.

Within these last few years, latex clothing has become more mainstream. I had always been interested in it, but acquiring latex pieces seemed rather cost prohibitive, and I was unsure if I’d actually LIKE it. Circumstances can change and tastes can grow, and when I found myself growing bored with the lingerie scene, I decided to go ahead and take the plunge.

I’ve purchased multiple William Wilde items now, and every time I’ve ordered, it’s been a very smooth process. The website is well-designed and gorgeous, which makes ordering a breeze!

Back in May, I ordered the Revue set, which is part of the Wilde Fire Collection. I placed this order on the 3rd and requested that an 1″ be added to the waist measurement. (More on this later.) I received a prompt response from Grace, William’s assistant, who was super friendly and polite. We exchanged a couple of emails, and then I patiently waited. My order shipped on the 20th.

My previous order from William and that came gorgeously wrapped in a red foil bubble envelope. Truth be told, I almost always prefer the most basic plain packaging since I feel excessively burdened and anxious to reuse ribbons and wrapping. This order came in a plain envelope with a promotional postcard; the contents were wrapped in black tissue paper and tied with a black ribbon. Perfect!

I don’t have a snap of my order because it’s simply not that interesting to look at when it’s covered in powder and unpolished. ;) But take my word on that. The magic happens when it’s shiny!

The fit of the items is great. I feel that all pieces fit true to size, and I’m very happy with the fit. Nothing cuts into my body, and everything is comfortable to wear. Latex is inherently stretchy and relatively forgiving, but if you’re in between sizes, I would pick the smaller size unless you prefer a loose fit.

Speaking of fit, unless you’re shopping William’s sample sale, all items are made to order. This fact brings up two important points:

1. Fall in between sizes? Need more ease in the waist? Fret not! Changes can be made to the pattern to fit you better.
2. Love the style but not in love with the color? William is willing to customize a piece for you.

Now what’s so amazing about this? These changes do not incur additional surcharges! Most designers typically have a customization or fitting fee, which is understandable and not at all unusual, so it’s nice to see a prominent designer waive this additional cost. (Please keep in mind that if you desire a true OOAK piece or heavy customization, there will most likely be a surcharge; it’s best to contact William directly for prices.)

Similar to what I mentioned in my Catherine D’Lish review, I truly appreciate that William’s work is relatively accessible to the average person despite his celebrity clientele which include Lady Gaga, Eve, Paloma Faith, Kylie Minogue, and Violet Chachki. While the price of latex items may appear overwhelming, prices are comparable, if not cheaper, to other latex designers and designer brands. For a product that’s made entirely by hand in the UK to fit your body, you really can’t get more bang for your buck!

I get that not everyone can afford to splurge on lingerie items that may not be part of one’s everyday attire. William does offer sporadic flash sales for an additional 10-20% off as well as his sample sale that is filled with AWESOME like-new/new pieces at heavily discounted prices. Both are announced on Instagram as well as his newsletter, so I’d follow and/or subscribe if interested!

A note for lingerie lovers outside of the UK…
Although William Wilde offers free shipping within the UK, they do not offer tax free shopping – what you see is what you pay, which includes VAT – nor free international shipping. Flat rate international shipping will set you back GBP10 for tracked shipping, which is a pretty good rate. Paying VAT as a non-EU resident on top of shipping usually deters me from shopping overseas, but for a few brands, I’ll begrudgingly make an exception. ;)

(A little follow-up post on latex care to come for those who are interested!  If you have any other questions about latex, please tweet or leave a comment, and I’ll do my best to answer it in the next post. :D)

In order to recommit myself to a healthy lifestyle, I decided to integrate my lingerie purchases into a rewards-based system that motivates me to get my butt to the gym.  I haven’t been feeling like the best version of myself for the past year, and my clothes have gotten uncomfortably tight.  Plus, working out has felt like the most tedious chore.  Since last week, I’ve made the gym a mile away from me my primary gym and have experimented with a split workout.  While health is important, it’s honestly not enough to get me out of bed at 5:15AM; however, a lingerie payday (ahem, “bribe”) will!

While I typically dislike rewards-based systems, this actually works very well for me, especially since I don’t see or feel many physical benefits until the 4 week mark.  Weeks 1-3 are usually difficult for me since I get extremely discouraged, fade into half-assing it, and then ultimately end up sabotaging myself.  I’m hoping that these benchmarks rewards will keep me right on track, and so far, they have!

Week 1 went quite well, but I was doing a program I disliked, but I committed to completing the first week — and I did!  I ended up researching some other programs and found one that suited me a lot better, so a new Week 1 started and shall be wrapping up tomorrow. I’m currently enjoying it even though I’m sitting like a floppy fish with nearly every single part of my body screaming out in sheer pain. Right now, I feel super bloated, unattractive, and lacking some self-esteem, but I’m going to hang in there.  I want these positive changes and good habits.  Also… LINGERIE PAYDAY.  (It’s kind of scary just how motivating a bribe can be. :p)

The program is 12 weeks, so my purchases will be spread out over this time period, through July.  I’ve cut back on a lot of spending (furniture/home decor/lingerie/eating out/etc), so my funds will be pooled into this 12 week project. ;)

Week 1: Maison Close Douce Provocation
Push-up bra + knickers.  Unfortunately, the basic panty sold out, so I’ll be purchasing the ouvert style.  This will be one of my “basic” sets that I’ll wear to work without much discomfort. :)

Week 3: Still debating on this but I’m leaning towards a Claudette bra. Still unsure but I already own the knickers…  I dunno.  Even if no lingerie purchases happen, I’ll be hitting the town with my dear Charging Sky as I finally go to Vegas as an adult!  Eh, I’ll consider face planting at Bacchanal a reward in and of itself. :)

Week 6: William Wilde Dairy Queen
Belle latex bow bra + Belle hipster knix. I’m not a huge fan of pastel blues, but this set is just stunning and spoke to me. :D I love the bows on the bottoms! <3

Week 9: William Wilde Revue Set
Why, yes, more William Wilde. :D I just adore William’s stuff! I love how elegant this latex set is, especially with the beige and black contrast. I am hoping that I can look as effortlessly gorgeous as Miss Deadly Red.

Week 12: Catherine D’Lish Dressing Gown
YOU GUYS, THIS IS WHAT GETS ME UP EVERY SINGLE MORNING. NO JOKE.  After receiving my dusty rose ostrich gown last month (thanks, tax return), I want another one so badly. Every time I see Catherine post another one of her gowns online, I have to physically restrain myself from purchasing one because “responsible adult.” I’m not sure what style or color I want yet, so consider this magnificent grey marabou creation as a temporary placeholder. :)

By the way, for those who are curious, I’m training with Jim Stoppani’s Shortcut to Size.  4 day split + 3 days of active rest + not going to the gym 2x/day as the program progresses = happy clam.  Jim’s videos have been awesome and helpful as I navigate through unfamiliar gym equipment.  I’d been lacking structure and order to my haphazard workouts for too long, so a structured split workout (something I’ve never tried before) has been 100% different compared to the full body barbell workouts I’d been doing before.  I’m definitely impressed thus far with the quality of the program considering that it’s free! :)
