Chemises / Slips

Happy New Year! New year, new beginnings. :) I’m hoping to have more regular content soon. One of my unofficial resolutions is to post at least once a week come, but it’s honestly super hard with life.

Sample day for me: get up at 7, get ready for work and be there by 8, get off at 6, hop on over to the gym, workout, shower, head back home, and usually, it’s about 9-10pm. On non-gym days, I grocery shop, cook, and/or run errands, and 2x a month, I spend my weekends with the little girl I mentor. With the spare time I have, I’m either sewing or working on my house/in my yard. Busy busy!

I always do appreciate everyone who takes the time to read my irregular blog posts, and I apologize in advance for not responding sooner to comments, but thank you so much for leaving them!

My sweet lady Charging Sky, who can be found on Instagram or writing for the Lingeristas, and I made a pact to limit and curtail our lingerie spending. (Dundundunnnnnnnn.) Speaking for myself, I -ahem- went out of control 3rd & 4th quarter last year since I had stopped buying lingerie the year before. It also didn’t help that Victoria’s Secret was releasing lingerie that I actually liked, and when you can try before you buy, it can be a dangerous, slippery slope. Also, let’s not get started with eBay either. ;)

January sales are in full-force, so if you’re looking to stretch your budget, now is the time to buy!

I was poking around Journelle’s website and saw that they are running an additional 20% off their sale section with the code: PLUSTWENTY (case sensitive). Since I’m pretty anal about owning the matching bra and knicker even though I mix and match like nobody’s business, I’m safe! What I like most about sales is being able to try out new brands at a lower price point; however, most sales, especially sale on sale, have a final sale policy, so please proceed with caution.

After dealing with a slew of international returns and two that have gotten LOST, I’m over figuring out sizing on my own dime. Nowadays, when I’m trying out new brands, I find myself leaning towards loungewear, which thankfully offers some forgiveness with fit.

I snagged myself the gorgeous Annabelle Zinke chemise with rose gold lace. They have it available in S and L, so if you want to be twins or a triplet, get on it!

I’m super excited and can’t wait to receive this since it’s so pretty, and I don’t own anything like it! I’ve always been really big on slips and chemises since I actually wear them underneath my dresses for work.

What new lingerie finds have you purchased? I LOVE seeing and hearing what others have purchased: high street, designer, basics, impractical – love it all! If you want to share, tell me, so I can vicariously live through you (and I promise to not take forever to respond)! After all, I can’t buy everything. ;)

Hi! I’m a grandma who is trapped inside a 30 year old’s body. I hate going out to bars/clubs/loud places with lots of drunk people, find most restaurants overpriced with mediocre food, and would most definitely prefer spending time with my little babou while hand-sewing little trinkets or dolls. I don’t own a TV, hate texting on a touchscreen phone, write letters, and hand wash all of my dishes. My home is furnished with people’s parents’/grandparents’ furniture that they no longer want.

I love old things.

So imagine my delight when I found some vintage lingerie at my favorite antique mall!
Delicates - Hanging

Can you believe that it was $5?
(Okay, I guess it’s totally believable. But I seriously can’t be the only person who wants some old nighties.)

I have no idea when this piece was made given how so many styles overlap, but I’m guessing 70s-80s. I may be completely wrong, so if you have a clue on deciphering the lot number/label, please let me know! :)
Delicates - Tag

It’s made of slinky, soft pink nylon netting and trimmed with Venice lace at the elasticated waist. There’s a little rosette at the center along with some trailing ribbons. It’s also proudly made in the USA!
Delicates - Inset

This is a size large, which is honestly too big on me. But I really adore this little nightgown and plan on a simple alteration by reducing the length at the top of the shoulders. (I just need this not to fall off of me when I move.)

I think a beige bralette underneath this would make it a cute “lingerie as outerwear” piece during the summer – something a bit more versatile – even though some grandmas, including my own, would probably not approve!

Delicates - Worn

This slip was purchased by me at a secondhand shop. Because I’m probably one of the few people who would buy old underwear. ;) Knickers are granny panties that I purchased at Marshalls for a few dollars on clearance. They’re also stamped “irregular.” Thought you should know.

In a stroke of unparalleled genius, I managed to drop a 45 lb barbell from shoulder-height right on top of my left foot. Searing hot white pain behind the eyes? Check. Thankfully, nothing appears to be broken, but I’ll see how it goes the next few days…

Has anyone else been shopping Journelle‘s semi annual sale? It’s been a year since I purchased some new “nice” lingerie, and I’ve been making out like a bandit. There are still a lot of gorgeous pieces left at awesome prices. I stocked up on Mimi Holliday and picked up some new brands that I’m happy to include in the lingerie box. :) More on this to come!

Given the fact that I’m currently incapacitated, time to hit the archives…

Maison Close has been one of my favorite French brands: unwaveringly sexy, a bit naughty, with a touch of class. I love the range of their collections and enjoy collecting the pieces that I like the most, especially from Villa Cancan.

I couldn’t find any stock photos for this piece, but this garter dress is from Maison Close’s Bel Ami collection that was released in 2010. The rose pink version is shown here on Forty Winks’ blog.
Bel Ami Garter Dress (full)

I always get a bit wary buying Maison Close online; depending on the fabric, some pieces have no stretch. This Bel Ami garter dress is very soft and stretchy, and I probably could’ve gone down a size… (For the record, I bought a Medium.) But with underwires in slips, I can never properly fit into a small even though I’m small busted due to the shape of my breasts.

Three panel construction in the cups with pretty keyhole detail!

Three gold-toned hooks in the “band.” I personally prefer wearing this as a slip over a bra/panties – best if the bra doesn’t have underwires.

Paired with undies, stockings, and heels for a classic look. :D

I’m lusting hard after Maison Close’s new collection, Chambre des Secrets. The leatherette paired with the mesh is love. I’m really digging the fetish/S&M elements that have become increasingly popular in lingerie. My two faves? (NSFW, btw): open cup bodysuit and catsuit. How I’d wear the catsuit? Underneath a billowy blouse that covers your bum – it’ll be your little secret to keep or share. ;)
